Rufous Hummingbird - Greeting Card

Rufous hummingbirds are one of the earliest migrants heralding the arrival of spring. They start to show up in backyards as early as January, relying heavily on early-flowering plants like Osoberry and Red-flowering Currant to help fuel them along their long journey from the southern hemisphere. These hummingbirds are one of the smallest measuring in at just about 3 inches long, yet are highly territorial around food sources. Their feathers are mostly orange and cream with some olive green on their wings making them easy to identify when compared to the fuchsia-and-green Anna’s Hummingbird, the most common hummingbird in our west coast region.
