GOOD FIRE - solo show & free ebook

I am excited to share with you that my first gallery-featured solo show “GOOD FIRE” is opening this Thursday August 28th. The show will be on view at Antler Gallery in Portland, Oregon through September 25th. Stop by the opening reception from 6-9 PM!

“Good Fire” explores how fire shapes us and how we shape it. This series was inspired by many years of hiking across the western United States, navigating the feelings that come from watching wildlife—and myself—adapt to the consequences of longer and hotter fire seasons.

“There is much to ponder, research, and discuss when it comes to human impact on the environment. No topic is black and white, no issue has a single solution, and this rings truer than ever when examining wildfire in the modern day.

Fire is a natural phenomenon that is vital to healthy ecosystems, yet we fear it, we banish it, we vilify it.

Through these paintings I am exploring the duality of fire: how its flames cast light on our need to hold space for conflicting truths at once:

Suffering and abundance, grief and love, recycling and regeneration.”

ALSO: get your FREE copy of the mini book I wrote to accompany this series

This short eBook collects images of each piece and pairs them with reflections on the themes of grief, loss, and renewal, and some science-based discourse on the ecology of wildfire.

I put A LOT of love into this book and plan to create more mini books to accompany future series.
